Overview

The Ruger AR-556 is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO. It is constructed from forged 7075-T6 aluminum with a black hard coat anodized finish on the receivers. The rifle features a 16.1-inch heavy contour, cold hammer-forged alloy barrel with a 1:8 twist rate and a 1/2x28 threaded muzzle equipped with an A2 flash hider. The rifle utilizes a direct impingement operating system, a chrome-plated bolt carrier, and a bolt machined from 9310 alloy steel. Furniture includes an 11-inch free-float M-LOK handguard and a 6-position telescoping M4-style buttstock on a mil-spec buffer tube. The rifle also features an enlarged trigger guard, a flat-top upper receiver with a forward assist, dust cover, and brass deflector.
