Overview

The Redding SAECO Lead Hardness Tester is a precision bench instrument designed for bullet casters and reloaders to determine the hardness of lead casting alloys. By measuring the depth of penetration of a hardened steel indenter into a cast bullet up to 45 caliber, it provides relative hardness readings on a vernier scale calibrated in arbitrary units where pure lead is 0 and linotype is 10. This tool allows users to verify alloy composition, ensure consistent ammunition performance, and evaluate scrap lead before casting.
