Overview

The PTG Mauser 98 Bolt Lug Lapping Tool is a specialized gunsmithing accessory used to ensure smooth bolt operation and maximum accuracy by allowing both bolt locking lugs to bear evenly on their receiver recesses. To use, the rifle barrel must be removed so the tool can thread directly into the receiver threads. Lapping compound or a 600-grit polish is applied to the bolt lugs, which close against the spring-loaded center pilot of the tool. Repeatedly raising and lowering the bolt polishes the lugs for a crisp feel and proper contact prior to final headspacing.
