Hornady Dangerous Game Series .500 Nitro Express ammunition is designed for hunting Africa’s Big Five and other large, thick-skinned game. Each round is loaded with a 570-grain Dangerous Game Expanding (DGX) Bonded soft-point bullet, which features a copper-clad steel jacket bonded to a lead core. This construction ensures high weight retention and controlled expansion (to 1.5 to 2 times the original diameter) while providing deep penetration through tough hide, muscle, and bone. This ammunition is produced with strict quality controls, using boxer-primed, reloadable brass cases and powders matched to each load to ensure consistent pressure and velocity, as well as proper regulation in double rifles. It delivers a muzzle velocity of 2,150 fps and a muzzle energy of 5,850 ft-lbs. Each box contains 20 rounds.
