Overview

The FN M249S is a semi-automatic replica of the military M249 SAW light machine gun. It is chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and features an 18.5-inch cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrel with a removable heat shield. Designed to operate from a closed-bolt position, the rifle accepts both standard AR-style magazines and linked ammunition belts, with a maximum capacity of 200 rounds for belt-fed configurations. The rifle is built on a formed steel frame and includes a top-cover integrated MIL-STD-1913 mounting rail, a folding steel bipod, and a folding carry handle. The furniture consists of a black polymer buttstock with a hydraulic recoil buffer system and a non-slip buttplate. Operating controls include a crossbolt safety, a curved trigger, and a non-reciprocating charging handle. It has an overall length of 40.75 inches and weighs 17.2 lbs.
